A new approach of all‐solid‐state generation of yellow radiation which matches the sodium D2 transition wavelength is proposed in this article. We study the possibility of producing 589 nm light by an intracavity sum‐frequency generation in Nd:YAG laser, operated simultaneously at two lines: 1064 and 1319 nm. This technique combines the advantages of better efficiency due to the higher intracavity power and the simplicity of the single oscillator design. We present preliminary experimental results which confirm the possibility of stable two wavelength operation with a simultaneous frequency mixing at 589 or 592 nm.
